My friend joined me for dinner and drinks at Baco Mercat the other evening. Originally, we had picked Baco for the amazing mac and cheese ravioli. After being seated, I was devastated to learn the heavenly item was no longer on the menu. Because downtown is awesome, our waiter made up for the heart break by immediately announcing that he and my friend were hair sisters, which they sooo totally were! Our waiter was so amusing, he was like another tasty entree. Without him, I do not know if I could have recovered from the lack of the coveted ravioli (why, or why, would one remove such an item from the menu??).

After dinner, we had planned to partake in Big Man Bakes. The tag line of Big Man Bakes is "fresh, moist, fantastic." Normally, I would never use these words together, yet alone repeat them to describe a food, but after having his cupcakes that changed. Sadly, the shop was closed. Are you sensing a theme in redemption after food disappointments?
Instead, for that after dinner sweet treat, we headed to the posh Artisan House. We decided on chocolate ganache. They did not disappointment. These exquisite chocolates created quite a party in our mouths, respectively. As we were purchasing our chocolate finery, one of the well-dressed and groomed male workers struck up a conversation with us by calling our purchase girly and informing us that he was going home to do man things like push-ups and eat a stick of raw salami. Our banter about gender stereotyping with a very fashionably dressed young man who was much more hip than I had my friend and I in tears. I also recall a discussion of blending Doritos and meat for efficiency stake while playing video games.
A simple evening turned awesome thanks to the sweet cats in DTLA. Everything is better in downtown L.A.
